12 Week Ultrasound and Doctor Appt.

I had a fantastic appointment today!!

I had a Nuchal Transluncency scan and bloodwork done.

The baby - at first - was lying face down and not moving much and all of a sudden it flipped and started dancing like crazy!!! The tech kept saying "your baby is cracking me up with all this moving!" It was soo cute! There were several times I could see it sucking its thumb - I could even see all of the fingers. The ultrasound was nearly an hour. I absolutely love watching it; I could watch it all day, everyday!

Addy and Doug were able to come with me as usual. She was so well-behaved; she just sat in her stroller always yelling out "baby!" and pointing to the TV. She is going to make an excellent big sister!!

The heartrate was a very strong 155bpm :)

The tech wasn't overly friendly; but not horrible either. She did manage to print out a picture for me:

This is a shot of the baby face down with its feet to the left and head to the right.

After my ultrasound I went next door to see my doctor.

I gave my usual urine sample, had my weight and blood pressure taken. I am only up 2 pounds since my last visit 5 weeks ago and my blood pressure was excellent! Something like 117/78 or so.

They didn't do a pap test last time so they did a quick check and everything is looking good down there.

After a while the doctor came in with an entourage of four students. He briefed them on my history (without looking at my chart at all - that's something I really love about him). He asked me if I had any questions and the only one I could think of is how is my weight gain - he said it was perfect. This pregnancy has been so easy that I really never seem to have any questions or concerns.

He then tried to do the doppler to get the baby's heartrate; he could only pick mine up so he took me over, with the four students lol, to do a quick ultrasound. He is so sweet! I told him that the ultrasound tech didn't get me such a great pic and asked him if he would snap one for me and he did! I love my doctor!

Both a doctor that came in during my screen for Down's and Trisomy and Dr. Mason said that the numbers are completely within normal range, everything looks good and to call in about a week to see what the final results are.

My doctor said that everything is progressing so well; he seems much more optimistic than he was when I was pregnant with Addy.

They gave me an order to have bloodwork done to see if I am immune to Rubella now. When I was pregnant with Addy I wasn't so when I gave birth I was re-immunized and now they are going to check to make sure it took. And also to check some vitamin levels.

I have another appointment with the doctor in 4 weeks - Sept. 17th; I will be 16 weeks then.
I think that is too early for gender determination; so I will probably have my anatomy ultrasound that will determine gender two weeks following that, when I am 18 weeks - around the 1st of October! I am so, so, SO excited to find out if Addy is going to have a brother or a sister!!!

Productive Weekend

I had a very ambitious weekend! Saturday I moved a lot of stuff around and started working on refinishing a dresser.
I moved a cabinet out of the back room into the kitchen to store all of my candy making supplies. I moved the scrapbooking supplies that were in that cabinet to the utility room shelves. I will be moving all the office supplies and cleaning supplies to those shelves too. I guess all of my craft supplies are going to go in the attic... will be a while before I have time for that kind of stuff again :P
I started refinishing a dresser that will go in the new baby's room. It was orignally painted white with brass plates and white pulls that had pink flowers on them. I sanded it and I will be staining it later this week. It is looking good so far. I am very proud of myself - I actually took on a huge task and I am completing it quickly :)
I feel like I am in nesting mode already. I just want to get everything in order now so we can move Addy to the back room as soon as possible so that the transition doesn't come when the baby comes. It is going to be hard enough that she will be in the middle of potty training.

Aunt Pat and I went to my cousin Audrey's baby shower on Sunday. It was a really nice event, everything was perfect. I got her a baby girl Gloworm doll, an outfit that came with a bib, socks and a hat, a $25.00 gift card to Babies R Us and a $20.00 gift certificate to Suzie's Confections. I wasn't around when she was opening presents, I was playing with Addy at the time. I really hope she liked the gifts :)

First Doctor Appointment

Today I had my first appointment with the OB office; it really wasn't considered an actual appointment though. I have to be on Innohep blood thinner injections again so I went to the hospital pharmacy to pick those up and was told to come up stairs and meet with the nurse. She wanted to review that I knew how to give myself the injection. It was surreal - I hadn't been on any injections since the gastric bypass surgery. It was funny though- it was like riding a bike! LOL.
We talked about a few other things - whether it is okay to wear my Spanx still, reviewed my medication list and I was given a prescription to the lab to have more blood drawn late next week. She gave me the wonderful welcome packet - full of great informational handouts and stuff. I really, really love my ob office. The nurses are so incredibly sweet and attentive. Dr. Mason is my angel! He did such a wonderful job with me last time.
I am really looking forward to this pregnancy being so much healthier. I have lost 120 pounds since I conceived Addison so I am sure that along with no more diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and such are going to make a super easy and healthy pregnancy.
My next appointment is scheduled for Thursday, July 16th at 930 for an ultrasound!!! We will get to see the baby's heartbeat!! After the u/s I have an appt. with Dr. Mason. I can't wait to see him!
I really hope that I find out during the u/s if I have an anterior placenta or not. With Addy I did and it hindered me ever feeling her kicking. I really, really feel like I missed out on a lot as far as that was concerned; as well as the constant fear because I couldn't feel her move and be assured that she was okay.
I am really looking forward to the next 8 or so months! I love being pregnant!!!

I'M PREGNANT!!!

When I went for my blood draw at the hospital on Tuesday I found out Wednesday that there was a chance that this could be a "chemical pregnancy". So they had me do a repeat hCG blood draw yesterday. The waiting has been excruciating to say the least!!
I called the doctors office the moment I thought that they opened - 8:30 am... Turns out they don't open until 9am. They promptly answered a few moments after 9am but told me that my results were not in the computer yet. UGHHH! They said that they would call me back when they found them.... more waiting!!! :(
At 10:22am she called back to let me know that my numbers were 79 and they had MORE THAN DOUBLED!! They were now 219!!! Oh my goodness! It's real! I'm really pregnant!!!

Chemical???

So ... I just got the call from the doctors office that I have been waiting for...
I had to go into the hospital again yesterday because when I was there earlier they only did a "rapid" HCG blood test and my doctor wanted a "qualitative". The rapid results are POS/NEG {my test came back postive, obviously} and the qualitative are actual numbers as to how high my hormone levels are.
The nurse just told me that the numbers were so low that this could very well just be a "chemical pregnancy" which may never amount to a baby...
She told me that I could come in ever 48 hours for more blood draws and see if my numbers go up, if they do - it is a pregnancy, if they don't - it's not...
I do not know what to say or think at this point...

God works in mysterious ways!

Today I was scheduled for an endoscopy to see if the pains that I have been having are an ulcer or an internal hernia. I went into the hospital and was taken back to be prepped for surgery. The nurse asked for a urine sample as soon as I was taken back to surgery holding. I gave my urine sample, lied down on the cot and was quickly given my IV. All of a sudden I notice that there is a little commotion surrounding my pregnancy test. I see nurses standing at it, staring at it and chatting with one another while pointing at it. They call over more nurses and the surgeon. They decide that they will do another one. I was sitting there in utter shock when a nurse told me: "there is a faint line so we're going to do another one". You cannot even begin to image my instant shock. So a couple minutes later I notice the same commotion ... I'm looking at them with my 'tell me now' eyes! She said: "another faint line, we're going to do a blood test!" My first question - "how long does it take!?!?" They told me it shouldn't take any longer than 1/2 hour. They asked me if I wanted Doug and Addy brought back to sit with me. I said I would love that - just don't tell him what's going on!! Doug and Addy spent the next excruciating 20 or so minutes with me. I was crawling out of my skin in anticipation; luckily he thought it was just nerves for the surgery. The whole time I am watching the nurses walk around, answer the phone; patiently as can be - waiting for the answer. All of a sudden I look up to one that is approaching me and her lips whispered "it's POSITIVE!" I threw my head back in disbelief! I looked at Doug and my eyes started watering. All this time I hadn't even thought about that I would say to him. The only thing I could think to say was: "honey, I am not having my surgery today... and I am not having my tummy tuck next month". He looked at me - puzzled as can be: "WHY!? What's going on!?" {The nurse had given me the urine test and I had tucked it into my bra before Doug ever joined me.} I pulled it out and held it up for him. He stared at it, it took a few seconds to register and he said "what's that!? A pregnancy test!? You're pregnant!?!?" I looked into his eyes and whispered “yes”. He immediately looked at Addy and said “you’re going to be a big sister Addy!!” It wasn’t until a few moments later when we had a little more privacy without the doctors and nurses running around congratulating us that we were able to finally hold one another and give each other a congratulatory kiss. The whole event couldn’t have been more perfect – finding out as a family of three (even if there were a couple dozen other attendees LOL).
So … obviously I didn’t end up having my scope surgery and I will not be having my tummy tuck as planned on July 8th. God works in mysterious ways…
