If Tears Could Build a Stairway

Current mood: lonely

If tears could build a stairway
and memories were a lane
we would walk right up to heaven
and bring you back again

No farewell words were spoken
no time to say goodbye
you were gone before we knew it
and only god knows why

Our hearts still ache in sadness
and the tears they still do flow
what it meant to lose you
no one can ever know

But now we know you want us
to mourn for you no more
to remember all the happy times
life still has more in store

Since you'll never be forgotten
we pledge to you today
a sacred place within our hearts
is where you'll always stay

Aunt Debbie watched Addison so Doug and I could go bowling Friday night with a few new friends from Cafemom. It was so nice to get out and have a 'date night'. It was also nice to meet some new people in the area. I hadn't bowled since probably high school and between that and my lack of activity I have been very sore for the past few days.

Addison is doing great! She had a doctor appointment Friday to get her first of six RSV shots and she weighed 10 pounds! I couldn't believe my eyes; I thought no more than 9 ½ pounds at the most. She still has her apnea and reflux but both are pretty well under control. Being a stay at home mom is different to say the least. I never thought in a million years there was such a thing as too much of a good thing. Spending every second of every day with my daughter is a blessing on one hand and excess on the other. Don't get me wrong, I love my daughter with all my heart, but I do need a break every now and then. That's another reason it was so nice to get out last Friday.

I had my gastric bypass consult a couple weeks ago. If all goes well and my family doctor fills out the necessary paperwork I might be able to get it after the first of the year. If not I will have to wait a year and attend appointments with a dietician.

For Thanksgiving me, Doug and Addy will be having a dinner here. Turkey, stuffed with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green bean casserole, rolls, sweet potato casserole and pumpkin pie with cool whip is the menu. I am sure we will be eating leftovers for at least a week with just the two of us eating. Christina might come over, we aren't sure yet.

Friday after Thanksgiving we will be going to Lansing for my ten year high school reunion and to see my brother, his wife and baby and my friend and her new baby she just had Saturday. I can't wait to meet lil Owen and see all my friends from high school.

Tonight we are taking Addison to get her first pictures taken. Later in December we will take her to see Santa and get pictures of that.

I guess that's about it for now.

Dear Mom,

Dear Mom,

It’s November 13th 2006, mom. My world just came crashing down; I just found out that your time on Earth is through. I feel completely numb - inside and out. My voice shakes, my knees tremble and my heart feels so incomplete- a piece of it will always be with you, mom. It’s okay though- you're in Heaven now, right where you wanted to be. We'll join you one day, just you wait and see.

It’s November 23rd 2006, mom. It’s Thanksgiving, one of the best days of the year. A day where you can almost guarantee we will always be together. We had dinner in your apartment; it felt like you were there with us. Makayla took her very first steps today and I was actually able to get a picture of it. Tomorrow is Dad’s birthday, please tell him ‘Happy Birthday’ for us, kiss him on the cheek and tell him how much we love and miss him, too.

It’s December 6th, 2006, mom. We set up the Christmas tree today and decorated the house. It was a very hard thing to do; going through all of the ornaments and decorations of yours. As I found each their perfect home I couldn’t help but picture them strategically placed around your houses with the accents of fake snow. I think my favorite is the carolers that you crocheted; they are stunning even after all these years. I also love your. She is and always will be the topper on our trees. It was an emotional day to say the least. I never would have ever imagined it would have been this hard. I miss you so much mommy! I love you!

It’s December 9th, 2006, mom. James and Erin got married today. You would have been so very proud. It was a beautiful event at a really nice place up north. I was standing on the terrace and the wind blew, I could feel your arms wrapped around me and your lips touch my cheek. It was surreal to say the least.

It’s December 17th, 2006, mom. We took the kids to see Santa today. You would have been so proud; they looked wonderful and were so happy- just gleaming.
Doug, Jim, Erin and I drove to Grand Rapids to see Joe yesterday. This is the first time we have seen him since that Easter a few years back.

It’s December 23rd, 2006, mom. Doug and I took the kids to Aunt Debbie’s today to celebrate Christmas with them; Uncle Steve and Aunt Pat were there too. Aunt Debbie went out of her way and set up a table for the kids to make Gingerbread houses. The kids had a blast. They were so proud of their creations.
Makayla’s birthday was two days ago but we are celebrating it tomorrow when Doug’s family is over for the Christmas Eve get-together.

It’s December 25th, 2006, mom, Christmas Day. This is another day of the year that you can almost guarantee that we would all be together. I miss you so incredibly much. The holidays are so hard. What made it a little easier was the kids- they had a great time; I’m sure it was their best Christmas ever.

It’s January 14th, 2007, mom. It’s James’ birthday. We had a party for him at Caesarland. The kids had a lot of fun! I made confetti cupcakes; they were delicious.

It’s January 26th, 2007, mom. I’m pregnant mom! Can you believe it!? No joke; this isn’t April Fools! I am on cloud nine! The first thing I thought about when I looked at the stick and saw that it was positive – was you mom. I can’t believe I am about to embark on this journey without you here.

It’s February 23rd, 2007, mom. Doug and I went to our first doctor appointment for the baby today. We had an ultrasound and saw it on the screen and hear its little heartbeat. It was the most amazing thing!

It’s March 28th, 2007, mom. The kids moved out today.

It’s April 6th, 2007, mom. Your grandson Orion David is here!! Two days until Jim’s birthday and nine before Erin’s. I can’t wait to meet my lil nephew!!
I had another ultrasound this afternoon. It was very exciting. You could see her whole body; she was moving around like crazy.

It’s April 7th, 2007, mom. I drove to Lansing to see Orion today. He is so amazing, mom. You would love to sit and hold him. He looks just like Jim.
I also met Aniyah today. I really wish you would have had the chance to see her, she’s beautiful; looks just like Arianna. You would be very proud of her.
Tomorrow is Easter, mom. I will be making your special rotisserie ham and scalloped potatoes.

It’s April 28th, 2007, mom. Doug and I drove into Lansing a couple weeks ago to meet up with Jim, Erin and newborn Orion. We had brunch at Clara’s. Do you remember Clara’s- the place that we went that one year that we didn’t go to Red Lobster for Mother’s Day. It was a mistake that day, but today was great.
Doug and I drove to Grand Ledge today and had lunch at Cugino’s with Jim, Erin, Orion, Aunt Debbie, Uncle Steve, Aunt Pat, Jennifer and Evan. We had ice cream afterwards. It was a lovely day.
OH! I forgot to tell you! Jennifer is pregnant too! She is due right around Thanksgiving! I can't believe that we are all having babies this year!

It’s May 13th 2007, mom, Happy Mother’s Day! This is my first Mother’s Day, it is weird though, you are not here and Addison is not here either. Yes, that’s right- we found out a couple days ago that we are having a girl! You would have been the first I would have called to share the wonderful news. I can’t wait to form that special bond with her that you and I had. Aunt Debbie and I spent the day together. We went shopping and out to lunch. It was a very nice afternoon. Doug’s birthday was yesterday and we had a bbq party for him last weekend. As you know- Joe’s birthday is in two days. I can say- you would be proud of him, too.

It’s June 4th, 2007, mom, Happy Birthday Mom!! I love you sooo much! I can only imagine the perfect card and beautiful flowers I would have picked out for you.
Doug and I got back a few days ago from celebrating our two year anniversary in New York. We had a great time and saw so much more than we did when we were on our honeymoon.

It’s July 14th, 2007, mom. Katie had her 5th child the day after your birthday; his name is Mason Lee Cameron. He looks just like his daddy. Brittany graduated high school and we went to her open house at Fitzgerald Park in Grand Ledge today. It was so nice seeing everyone; it’s been a long time.

It’s July 17th, 2007, mom, it’s Father’s day. Will you tell dad that we say ‘Happy Father’s Day’ and give him a big hug and kiss for us.
Tomorrow is Aunt Pat’s birthday!

It's August 4th, 2007, mom. Yesterday was Christina's 6th birthday. We had a birthday party for her today at Doug's brother Mark's house. She is getting so big!

It’s August 11th, 2007, mom. Today is my baby shower. It was so perfect! The only thing missing was you. I definitely felt your presence today as I do on most big events. I know you are up there watching over all of us through good times and bad. Especially when times are tough I simply picture your face and smile and know that everything will be okay.

It’s August 12th, 2007, mom. Today is Orion’s dedication. It was a beautiful event mom. You would have been so proud of the husband and father that your son had become.

It’s September 2nd, 2007, mom. Your granddaughter Addison Kay was born tonight at 10:10pm, weighing 5 pounds, 12.9 ounces, measuring 18 inches!
I hope you don’t mind that I gave her your middle name. You will always have a special place in her heart. I felt your presence over the last couple of days more than any other time. I needed you the most tonight mom and I felt your hand upon my heart.
I have always thought and now more so than ever that when one life ends a new one begins.

It’s September 3rd, mom. Doug and I got to meet our daughter today!!! I delivered her via c-section last night and because her health was so frail they showed her to me and whisked her away to the Special Care Nursery. We weren’t able to see her for over 12 hours! It was excruciating. But when I finally did get to go in and hold the life we created, my life felt instantly complete. I felt your presence so intensely today and I am sure that you are the angel that is and will continue to watch over our dear miracle.

It’s September 8th, 2007, mom. As you are well aware- it’s my birthday today. It was my hardest birthday by far since you were not here to share our special day nor was Addison, mom. She’s been in the hospital, in the special care nursery. She had some complications but we are hoping she will get to come home soon. When I sit in the rocker and hold my precious daughter in my arms I can feel your arms wrapped around us.

It’s September 13th, 2007, mom. Yesterday was aunt Debbie’s birthday! And today Addison gets released from the hospital. I cannot believe I am actually going to be able to walk out that door with our baby girl. It is surreal to say the least. It has been a rollercoaster over the last 11 days with her being in the hospital. Having to leave her behind when I was discharged was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.

It’s September 23rd, 2007, mom. Addison has been home for good for a little over a week now. She had to be readmitted a couple days after she came home for a couple days. She wasn’t breathing so well. She has been great since, though.
Doug and I took Christina to a carnival today. She had the time of her life. She has been living with us for a week now. She is doing great.

It’s October 31st, 2007, mom. It’s Halloween! Addison was a pumpkin this year. She was so cute. Christina moved back home last week.

It’s November 13th, 2007, mom. I can’t believe that you have been gone a year. This has been the best and the worst year of my life. I never thought that I would be able to wake up and face each new day without you here but somehow I have. I’m sure that it’s been possible with the help of the miracle you blessed us with.

I sit here and ponder how very much
I'd like to talk with you today
There are so many things
That we didn't get to say.
I know how much you care for me
And how much I care for you,
And each time that I think of you
I know you'll miss me too.
An angel came and took you by the hand and said
Your place was ready in Heaven, far above . . .
And you had to leave behind all those you dearly loved
You had so much to live for, you had so much to do . . .
It still seems impossible that God was taking you.
And though your life on earth is over, in Heaven it starts anew
You'll live for all eternity, just as God has promised you.
And though you've walked through Heaven's gate
We are never far apart
For every time I think of you,
You're right here, deep with-in my heart.

We Thought of You Today

We Thought of You Today

We thought of you today
but that is nothing new
we thought of you yesterday
and will tomorrow we will too

We think of you in silence
and make no outward show
for what it meant to lose you
only those who love you know

Remembering you is easy
we do it everyday
it's the heartache of losing you
that will never go away

She is Gone, Rest in Peace

She is Gone...

You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back,
Or you can do what she would want:
smile, open your eyes,
love and go on.

Rest in Peace

Theresa on Nov 13, 2007 3:51 AM: So today is the anniversary of her passing? I'm sorry Mary. I don't really know what to say. I can't imagine losing my mom. Just try to remember that she is looking down on you and the baby and watching over you both. She loves you and she knows you love her. She wouldn't want you sad over her. She would want you to be happy and enjoy every minute you have with your family and friends. :) Even though it can be pretty stressful at times. lol We're here for you and you know how to reach me if you need to talk. *hugs*
Theresa

Jenn on Nov 14, 2007 2:13 AM: Beautiful poem! Perfect. :) I hope you got through the day okay yesterday, and you always know I'm here for you.

What I learned today: 11/09/07

Current mood: annoyed

I used to be a manager at
IHOP, I know, don't laugh; but I learned there that there was such a thing as cornbread pancakes, MMMM, (and the best chocolate chip pancakes in this world.)Anyhow. For dinner tonight I planned chili and cornbread. I used Jiffy Corn Bread mix and tried to make some myself. Granted- I have done this very thing before and they turned out (with the exception of the first one, I always burn the first one.) Well this time I thought I would follow the directions for the pancakes rather than just the muffins. Well today I learned to just use the muffins recipe on the box. I burned EVERY one I made with the pancake recipe. And I learned that Jiffy is made in Michigan. LOL.I know, I'm a dork.

Wish Me Luck

Current mood: optimistic

Good morning all...I am heading to my consultation appointment for the gastric lap-band surgery. I know that I'm a good candidate with being as overweight as I am and all my health conditions. It is just a lot of hoops to jump through to get the insurance to cover it. I have to go through a psychological evaluation among a sleuth of other things.I hope I have good news after today's 4 hour appointment.
Wish me luck please.

Weird, random things, facts, habits, goals…

Current mood: creative

I have a hard time sticking to a budget, finishing a project (sometimes even starting a project because I am perfectionist and I don't want to start it until I know it will turn out perfect), I am not goal oriented, I am not ambitious at all and I love making lists. I cannot sing. I am right-handed.
--
I absolutely LOVE being a wife and mommy. I kissed A LOT of frogs before I found my prince- online. I married Mr. Elliott on Memorial Day, May 30, 2005. I found out I was pregnant on January 26, 2007; and gave birth to my miracle on September 2, 2007 (one day before Labor Day). I loved being a daughter; mom passed away November 13, 2006 (it's almost a year now) and dad March 10, 1990. I never really knew what it was like to be a grand-daughter; most of my grandparents were gone before I was born. (Just some more reasons to go through with the surgery- to ensure I meet Addison's children and hopefully their children…). It's great to have two brothers- but I always wanted a sister. My (living) role model is my aunt- Debbie- she has a great marriage and raised a wonderful son. I do not have many close friends; but I'm looking into making some that live nearby. I have a ton of cousins, nieces and nephews; some I don't see often enough, some I see nearly daily. --
Doug and are must be insane- a 2 month old and no protection. We tried for a few years with no luck; but that doesn't mean that it can't happen again. Addison is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Some people say one miracle IN Heaven, one miracle FROM Heaven (referring to mom blessing us with our child). I always wanted to be a mommy; I couldn't picture myself doing anything else.
--
I hate:
Wash rags- I use a bath puff thingy. Poor grammar and/or spelling.People that come to this country and then do not make any efforts to learn English.
Having to hold my breath just because someone didn't feel like taking a shower or wearing deodorant.
People not turning their clothes the right way before washing them.Bad service at a restaurant.Customer service not being what it used to be.Know-it-alls with irrational reasoning's.
Door to door evangelists.People who call over and over and won't leave messages.Dreadlocks.Bodily emissions in confined spaces and/or public places.I harbor an extreme dislike for chat rooms.People who blow their horn at you the nano-second the light changes to green. No toilet paper or paper towels in public restrooms.People who dress to the nines to go to Wal-Mart and bring their kids with their crusty noses, dirt rings around their necks, faded dirty clothes, and dirt crusted feet in flip flops; I consider this a form of child abuse- these parents should be horsewhipped.Guys who wear wife beaters in public- just wife beaters, nothing else for a shirt. They are called UNDERshirts for a reason.People who oppose random drug testing at jobs.
My two favorite seasons being the shortest of the four.Boy bands.Going from Halloween straight to Christmas with no mention of Thanksgiving.
When I'm in a line and the person behind me is stepping on my heels.
Hypocrites. An unorganized refrigerator or cupboard.People making obnoxious noises- like constantly sniffling or talking on a cell phone at the movies.(Most) cats.
People who pick their noses, and/or butts, in public. The use of "X-Mas" in place of Christmas REALLY bothers me for some reason.Political campaigns.Jay Leno.People who call Child Protective Services on someone just out of spite.People who use the word 'nigger' and think it's acceptable.
Leaving an empty hanger on the rod when you take the clothes out of the closet.
People who rationalize their smoking habits.Pronouncing gyro 'jy-ro' when it's actually 'yer-ro'.My child not having any grandparents.
Waking up to the sounds of lawnmowers and leaf blowers.Having to repeat something in a conversation because they weren't paying attention.
Target commercials.Parents that do no control their children in public.Women who have child after child and expect US to pay for the medical, food and cash for whatever they want to waste it on.Loud vehicles.
Getting drunk for the sake of getting drunk at the company Christmas party just because the boss is paying.
Strangers who do not have the human decency to say "thank you" or even acknowledge you when you hold the door for them, or wave when you let them go first on the roads.
Telemarketers.Getting over-hard eggs when I ask for over-easy.People making noises while eating or chewing gum.Static on the radio or TV.The cost of gas, insurance, diapers and formula; you think they charge so much because you can't live without these things?People who call you simply out of boredom.
Homophobic's
Not knowing how to soothe a crying baby.People who buy animals, only to get rid of them a week later because it was harder to take care of them than they thought.Stay ay home moms with nannies.People who claim they care about you but cannot find time in their busy schedules to attend your wedding or worse- will they attend your funeral?
…do I sound like a complete neurotic bastard yet?
--
Both Doug and I are going to get bariatric lap-band surgery. Please don't judge until you really know what it really is- feel free to ask questions. We were going to keep this a secret- but we will need support from friends and family. We have our first consultation appointment soon. I have diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I also have a blood mutation which can cause dangerous blood clots. I have anxiety issues. I have polycystic ovary syndrome (it was a miracle Doug and I conceived without the fertility medications I thought we would have to use.) I have HPV which caused precancerous lesions on my cervix a couple years ago. I have to have them frozen off. I have persistent Bell's palsy. I am supposed to wear a Tens Unit all day, every day to TRY to correct it. That's a pain in the butt to say the least. I have plantar fasciitis (problems in my feet) - I am supposed to wear moon boot thingies to bed every night. I have arthritis in both knees, one more so than the other due to a sand volleyball accident a few years back. I have horrible teeth; I'm sure dentures are in the very near future, literally. Geeze- what a list; and the sad thing- I'm sure that doesn't cover it all.
--
I love smoked oysters; so much so that I can eat two cans in one sitting. Then I get all grossed out and ask myself why I just did that. When I was a kid I used to think they were as nasty as the liver and onions mom would feed us- until one day dad made us close our eyes and plug our nose and doused our mouth with this scrumptious thing that I later found out was an oyster. At first I tried to deny that I liked it, but the pleasure on my face showed I was fibbing. My other favorite foods are: steak, alfredo sauce, bacon and brownies- the most unhealthy things in the world. I suppose that's why I NEED surgery, nothing else has worked. I really hate: onions, green peppers, miracle whip, liver, fish, sloppy Joes, jello, bologna, Sheppard's pie, peas, coffees that the serve nearly everywhere these days, you know- the nearly espresso kinds, grapefruit, radishes and coconut among other things.
--
My second toe is longer than the first and my baby toes curl in. I do not go outside barefooted and I did not let my foster children do so, nor will I allow Addison outside without shoes. I really do not like sandals on kids either- I don't find them to be safe- especially to an infant that's just learning to walk. I have a red blotch for a birthmark on my right forearm. I have a 'beauty mark' on my right upper cheek; it's cute and all until that damned thick hair pops outta it every so often.
--
I take the laptop to the bathroom. I have a cell phone; but like most of the people I know- I do not carry that everywhere I go (including the bathroom). I LOVE my DVR- I don't know what I would do without it (my recordings, which I prefer to watch commercial-free- are: Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, ER, October Road, Notes from the Underbelly, Saved, Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, Hell's Kitchen, House, Big Medicine, Biggest Loser, Desperate Housewives, 'Til Death, Supernanny, Nanny 911, Trading Spouses, Wife Swap, Dr. Phil, Extreme Makeover, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Kitchen Nightmares, baby shows, weight loss shows, home remodeling/designing shows, good God, thankfully they all do not run in the same season. I LOVE my camera even more. I'm sure I bother people with my excessive camera use and the amount of pictures I post. I do not own an iPod.

Addison’s 2 Month Doctor Appointment

MORE PICTURES

Current mood: accomplished

I am so proud of my baby girl! She has come so far!

She was 5 pounds, 12 ounces, 18 inches when she was born…

She is now 9 pounds, 20 ¾ inches!!! They say that she is growing great even without any premature adjustments. Her tone is good, pulses good, and her responses are great. The doctor was impressed when she saw her lift her head off the table and when she rolled over when she's on her belly. The doctor said that she has absolutely no concerns with her at this point. That is fabulous news! They adjusted her medicines for her reflux and she will be seeing a gastroenterologist in a couple weeks for that. She also had her 2 month shots and did so great, she only cried right after briefly and slept the rest of the day for the most part.

Addison about to get her 2 month shots

Addison just got her shots!

My poor baby!!!

A couple weeks ago the apnea doctors ordered for her monitor to be downloaded. Once they got the results and interpreted them they called to let me know the results. In the month prior she had 9 apnea (stop breathing momentarily) episodes and 16 low heart rate episodes. Not so good, but I think she's getting better; the alarms do no go off nearly as often as they used to. She will stay on the caffeine and the monitor and every 3 weeks they will do downloads to see how she's coming along. It doesn't look like she'll be off anytime soon, but that's okay, when she's ready, she'll be ready.

Her next appointment isn't until January 2nd. They said to start feeding her single grain cereal when she's 3 months, 3 weeks… so sometime around Christmas.
