Our 3rd Anniversay !

Current mood: happy

With today being our third wedding anniversary it gets me thinking about that day and how fantastic it was. Going into gastric bypass surgery in a matter of a few days makes me all the more anxious to renew our vows after I get the weight off. I agree that I made a lovely Bride that day- I do clean up well afterall! LOL But I cannot wait to get down to goal weight, get my dress altered and rings resized and go through the magical day at the size and in the health I am supposed to be. I do not know what we will do- whether we will have a local big ceremony, a small one, a quick trip to Vegas or what. Time will tell. I am really looking forward to this!

Gastric Bypass Pre-Op Testing (05/28/08) and Pre and Post-Op Diet Guidelines

Current mood: victorious

Yesterday I went for my gastric bypass surgery pre-op testing. I was told that it would be from 9:30a-5p, it ended up only going until 2:30p.

I was weighed, had blood drawn, urine, blood pressure, temperature taken and then I met with a nurse and we went over my health history and present conditions. I then met with a doctor whom performed a brief physical.I then met with a dietician and went over all the food restrictions and such. These things took 3 hours.

I then went over to the hospital to answer even more questions and met with an anesthesiologist who walked me through the process and answered my questions. After that I had an EKG and a chest x-ray.These things took one and ½ hours.

It was a long day but I now feel truly prepared for my life-altering surgery. I am scared, anxious, excited, happy, etc, etc, etc. There are a million terms to cover the emotions that I am going through right now. And I am sure there will be those and a million more after the procedure and adjusting to my new life.

She's changing in leaps and bounds!

Current mood: in love

My baby girl is growing up so fast; I can't even wrap my head around it.

One surprise after another, after another, after another.

Recently I was feeding her and she looked at me and said "ma ma" clear as day. I think it was a true word, I hope anyway.

She can make her way around a room before you know it. She rolls and turns excellent. She stands up with assistance really well. She is starting to get up on her hands and knees and rock back and forth. She's sitting up pretty good with just a little support. I am sure that she will be sitting up independently and crawling all over before I can blink! LOL

She recently discovered 'dropsy'. She looks at me for my reaction when she does it, it's quite comical. She also looks at me for my reaction when she's making her way around and accidentally bumps her noggin, she will not start crying until she locates me and sees my face. She is outgrowing her swing- trying to crawl right outta the darn thing. She is an old pro in her jumper now. Jumps like crazy, and rotates the seat all the way around.

She loves playing with her toys and really gets into the details of them. I am constantly finding her trying to pick apart the littlest details of her toys- while sticking her tongue out like she’s concentrating intensely.

She loves to dance. We say "dancy dance" and her hips, head and shoulders start wiggling. She also does it on her own anytime she hears any music, but more so instrumental music.

She doesn't have any teeth yet. Her time will come.

She feeds herself her bottle and I am starting to let her grasp the spoon and feed herself her solids too. She is really into eating graduate foods like the melt in your mouth things. Her pincher grasp is pretty darn good.

She smiles all the time, even when she's sick she is still a delightful lil baby girl. Her hair is crazy! My aunt calls it ‘firecracker hair’. There is nothing you can do to tame it- it sticks straight up and sometimes looks like a mohawk.

She is ticklish, giggles like crazy when we tickle her tummy. I love it.

We recently discovered co-sleeping. Not all the time, but I try to sneak in a nap together as often as possible. It's the only time I get to cuddle with her since she won't lie on my chest and cuddle unless she's sick.

Her temperament is awesome, she only cries when she is hungry, which we are on a great schedule so that rarely happens. She gets a little moody and rubs her eyes a lot when she's tired.

She's going to be 9 months old in a few days and I discovered just this morning that she can wear 9 month clothes! I looked at it on the hanger and thought there is NO WAY this is going to fit her. Low and behold I tried and it fits her perfectly. I never thought the day would come that she would fit in the size of the month she is. She was at the doctor the other day and I asked if she was a good weight for her age and prematurity. The doctor assured me she is doing just fine at 17 pounds, 12 ounces. She has her 9 month well-child next week and I will get more information, along with her length, then.

Addison Kay is the light of my life; I would be lost without my lil miracle. I can't believe I managed 28 years of life without her. She is my everything.

My Back Diagnosis

Current mood: in pain

I just got in from seeing ‘God’ LOL.

I went in for the appointment at 10:30- was x-rayed right away and waited no more than 10 minutes to see the my chiropractor. He explained to me that not only is my spine curved- it is twisted as well. This is making one of my legs longer than the other because of this my hips are shifted. The muscles in my back are constantly fighting one another from the contortion making them spasm! So every time I bend in a certain direction, cough, sneeze, twist or turn – my back muscles get ticked off and spasm. Because of all of this I am walking with a constant limp- unbeknownst to me. He presumes this has been going on many years and he is confident he will get me and keep me in tip top shape! I suppose that is where the “once you start going to a chiropractor you have to go for the rest of your life” part comes in. I had heard that time and time again; which is why I delayed seeing one for the first time until today. The pain was getting downright unbearable.

While he was talking to me I was lying on my belly on the table with a warm compress on my back and after he left a gentle lil massage therapist came in and gave me a soft tissue massage in that general area for about 10 minutes. After that he came in and started his thing! LOL. He took the table (the half beyond my waist) and bent it up and down several times until I reached my pain tolerance limit and yelped like a beaten puppy! He then did three more procedures – like the masseuse did, but with more force. I could definitely feel a difference in at least the constant pressure I had been feeling. He did this for over 20 minutes. Wow, how refreshing it was to not feel like he was rushing to get in another patient as quick as possible. He was very through in getting my history and such. I simply fell in love with this man whom I am now going to refer to as my “back God”. LOL

I sat up and he gave me and ice pack and went over the dos and don’ts. He told me to stop back in tomorrow and he’ll be “a lil more aggressive” with me—I likey!I thought I was in tip top shape; maybe I just succumbed to the thought that I would feel that great from then on… too bad it wasn’t true.

I made my way out to the car and it took EVERYTHING I had in me to get the Addison in her car seat into the car and then the stroller into the trunk. I stood with my door to the car open- just staring down at the seat- thinking I am NEVER going to be able to get in, let alone get out when I get home. After a couple phone calls for help and many, many tears – I finally bucked up and MADE myself fight the pain and get in the car. I then realized it was super hard to drive because with every movement shots of pain would torture my lower back. I ‘grinned and bear-ed’ that too, I had to. I finally got home and did so once again, this time I was pleased to see it was MUCH easier getting out of the car verses getting in… strange. I think I was just calmer and less emotional this ‘go-round’ though. I managed to get myself and Addy into the house with little pain. I just put Addy to bed and now I am relaxing with my binder around my waist. I am feeling pretty good despite such a terrible day so far.

The doctor did not prescribe medication of any kind. He told me if I had any anti-inflammatory meds at home to take some and if I had any pain medicine to feel free to take them at night to get some good sleep. But other than that he seems to think that I should be pretty much back to normal in under a week. Granted, it does sound like I will need to return to get adjustments regularly because of my conditions. He will be going over the x-rays and showing me the problem areas tomorrow. I am really looking forward to a new lease on ‘my back’ lol. Thanks for all your prayers and advice!

H.Pylori, a set back... kinda...

Current mood: disturbed

I just got a call from my WLS counselor. She told me that my h-pylori test results weren't necessarily negative like they thought. The results show "
unequivocal".I am unsure as to what that meant- usually you are either posivite or negative. I have to go in tomorrow morning for another blood draw. If I end up having h-pylori I will have to be on 2 weeks of meds and have a scope done to ensure it's gone. That's the scary part- Doug had that done and had his near death experience during the procedure. Sooo.. I am a lil uneasy at the moment...

Update 05/07/2008, 2:39 PM:
I got the call that I am negative for the h-pylori! Great news!

What I am looking forward to post- surgery

Current mood: eager

I have been browsing a lot of group forums and pictures on Cafe Mom as well as
obesityhelp the last few days.

Right now I am at an all time emotional high... picturing myself thin is like the biggest dream ever; I can't even wrap my head around the idea! There are so many things that I am looking forward to after I lose my 118 pounds I need to lose to be at my goal weight. This list is going to constantly be updated.

*Becoming a non-diabetic first and foremost.

*Getting off diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, anxiety, etc, insulin's and pills!

*Achieving a weight that I am not ashamed to dress. The difference in the before compared to the after pictures are astounding. I can't wait to go to a normal store to get my clothes!

*To be able to go to an amusement park or carnival and get on the ride without a care in the world. There was nothing worse than when Doug and I went to Disney World and after standing in line for over an hour- finding out that we are either too big to ride, or too big to ride together. How embarrassing when the seat belt won't fit; or when the other riders had to feel scared because the lap bar didn't come down far enough because our big bellies prevented it from coming down any further.

*To also be able to go to a game without having to worry if I will fit in those seats. We went to several Pistons games a few years back when I was tipping the scales over 300 pounds. The first few times we went we had prime seats and were relatively comfortable, as comfortable as two rolley-pollies could be. The last time we went was the last time... we had cheap seats, way up high and they were too tight to accustom our large butts. I was so embarrassed as I looked over and saw my thigh squeezing through to the person next to me's- seat. We ended up leaving the game early and never talking about going again.

*It will also be great to not have to use a seat-belt extender in compact cars, not have to worry about how big a car we need to rent is, or not have to request a seat-belt extender from an airplane stewardess.

*To go into a restaurant and just get seated wherever they seat us rather than having to request a TABLE, not a booth, because we can't fit inbetween the table and the back of the booth seat. I remember one very tramatic time, Sweetest Day, at Papa Vinos. It was really busy and we asked for a table and were were taken to a booth. They didn't comprehend when we said table, we meant TABLE, with chairs, ya know. The hostess ever-so-snotty asked "why can't you sit here?" I pointed at myself and simply said "size". They took us back to the front where we waited over 20 minutes. When they took us to our new seat there were like three tables pushed together. I was in dismay. I asked the hostess "what's this all about!?" and they replied, "you said you have a large party!"I sat down and did my best to not let the tears start pouring. We enjoyed our meal the best we could with most of the tables around us staring at us, wondering why we have two unused tables connected to ours.

These sorts of incidents happen quite frequently; I cannot even recall each and every one of them. At each one I think to myself "I can't do this to myself anymore, I need to change things, drastically." Still nothing has ever worked, thus the reason I opted for surgery. The surgery is not an easy way out by any means, there will be a ton of work ahead of me. I have a feeling that I can do it with the help of the surgery.

I'm rambling,... going to close for now...05/02/08 Update: OH! and I cannot wait to wear dresses and look femine!!!!!!!!!I want a 'lil black dress!!'

Day 5 on Chantix

Current mood: anxious

Things are getting a little easier emotionally, for the time being anyway. Yesterday was horrible mentally but today I feel at peace. I have been pretty tired this afternoon but other than that I have had a little more energy over the past several days. I have gotten more housework done this week than I had in the past month lol.

Two more days and my last cigarette Saturday night before bed and I'll be done for good. The thing is- I cannot picture myself as a non-smoker, weird I know. It's just such a habit for me as much as a chemical addiction. I need to figure out what to do instead of having one after my meals and such; I think those are going to be my trigger points. I pray that I have what it takes, with the help of this medication, to remain smoke free. I know if I can quit for a month prior to surgery I will never pick up a cigarette again. Should be easy enough not having anyone around me that smokes. I need to fool-proof my environment.

Well I suppose that's enough rambling for now...

I waved "hi" to my neighbor... I never do that...

Current mood: optimistic

Some 'happy bug' has got a hold of me. Since going out this morning for an appointment I feel so refreshed. I have been such a homebody lately; Addy and I haven't really ventured out since I started babysitting three weeks ago. The first week I had them for 10 hours a day; now I have them less than 5. There is really no reason that I do not do more in the mornings with my girl. I could do things like garage sales, grocery shopping and play dates; all before the boys even get here at 1:30p. I am excited to have a new lease on life. I was feeling quite frumpy lately; I guess getting out today was just what the doctor ordered!

"Let's go mama!"

"Mom! I'm ready for an outing, it's been a long time!"

"C'mon mom!! Let's go!"

"Oh boy, am I ever tired!"

"Gettin' ready for a nap"

"Change my booty mama!"

I also have the scrapbooking bug lately too, anything crafty really. I just remembered- Saturday is National Scrapbooking day- I should look around and see if any local stores have a crop I can get in on! Anybody else!?
