Wonderful Weekend!!

This weekend has truly been a wonderful weekend. Nothing extremely exciting happened; it was just so lovely spending quality time with my wonderful family.
Friday evening we took Addy to get her professional pictures done. I really love how they turned out. She has become such a 'çheeser' lately that we cannot have her say "cheese" or her entire face will be consumed with her contagious smile! hehehe!

I loved being able to include Alex in this years picture :)

Saturday late morning I went to a mom 2 mom sale and managed to snag quite a few great items for $20! I got Addy a Barney costume for next Halloween, a Barney doll, a Princess CD/book and got Alex
several clothing items.
Prior to shopping and afterwards I spent a lot of time cleaning and organizing the house. I feel like I am in that nesting phase :)
Later in the evening I spent some time pampering myself and my babies. I trimmed and painted Addy's nails, mine and gave Doug a mini pedicure.

Afterwards we put Addy's tent up and played for a bit.

Havin' a BLAST!

This is SO much fun daddy! You should come in here and play with us!!

After Addy went to bed Doug and I watched a movie -
'Four Christmases'. It was okay - nothing great though.

Sunday was great too. I spent more time cleaning and organizing in the morning. Afterwards we went shopping and took Addy to see Santa Clause. I was thinking that maybe, just maybe she was ready to sit on his lap and give us a smile since we have been talking about him so much and she seemed so excited; no such luck though. She saw him and cried but after a couple moments freed herself from me and did sit on his lap. Didn't get any smiles but maybe a time or two more and we might...

It's okay honey! It's just Santa :)

She actually walked to him on her own. After she saw mommy shake his hand she knew it was okay.

Pretty scared...

"Okay... this isn't so bad..."

"... but I'm still not gonna smile..."

"Mommy - I did it, I'm up here, what more do you want!?"

When we got home I started dinner in the crock pot and we all took naps. When we got up we had chili and cornbread cakes and watched some TV. After dinner Addy and I finished decorating the Christmas tree.

Mommy & Addy putting ornaments on the Christmas tree

"this is kinda neat, how pretty!"

"Apple!"

"CHEESE!!!"

I thought she would he more interested in putting the ornaments on the tree... but she seemed to have more fun throwing icicles (tinsel) around!

I finished off the evening wrapping presents.

I am really looking forward to Christmas!

Addy and Momma putting Grandma Marilyn's special angel atop our beautiful Christmas tree!

"I love you more than you will ever know..."
This is such a special time of year :)

Our stockings: Dad, Mom, Addison, Alexander and our special "Jesus Stocking"
On Christmas Eve after we bake gingerbread cookies for Santa we sit down and write a list of all of the things that we are thankful for. We put it into the stocking and read them to one another first thing Christmas morning.

My 28 Week Doctor Appointment

Happy 3rd trimester to me!!

I cannot get over how fast this pregnancy is going by. Before I know it I will be holding baby Alexander in my arms; I cannot wait!!!

I had my glucose test the other day and failed so I spoke with the doctor today about what he would like me to do. He agreed that it would be best to just start testing my sugars four times a day - calling the results in once a week and seeing if I can control it with diet alone. If not - I will start insulin.

My blood pressure was normal - something like 118/52 or so. My weight on the other hand was surprising to say the least! I had gained 8 pounds in 4 weeks! So the doctor thinks that the sugar is affecting his growth and scheduled me for a growth ultrasound in a couple weeks.

The nurse checked to see if I was dilated and said that I wasn't but did inform me I have a polyp on my cervix. She assured me that they are usually benign and that they won't do anything to treat it during the pregnancy because it would cause bleeding.

I now start seeing the doctor every two weeks instead of four. I will start my non-stress tests (NST's) in four weeks.

My upcoming schedule is:

30 Weeks:

33 Weeks:
Thursday, January 14, 2010 - 8:45am - NST

Monday, January 18, 2010 - 8:45am - NST

34 Weeks:

35 Weeks:
Thursday, January 28, 2010 - 8:45am - NST

Monday, February 1, 2010 - 8:45am - NST

36 Weeks:
Thursday, February 4, 2010 - 8:45am - NST

Gestational Diabetes Sugar Test

I went in last night for my glucose test to see if I have gestational diabetes (GD). I was not familiar with the process since when I was pregnant with Addison I was already a full-blown, insulin-dependent diabetic.
I had to drink a glucose liquid and wait an hour and then have my blood drawn.
I went into the procedure thinking that I more than likely had GD - I have noticed that I have been really tired lately, gaining more weight than expected and another female issue that I will leave out - that I only get when my sugars are out of control.
Well... I phoned the doctors office this morning and I was told that I completely failed the test! I wasn't shocked, but I am disappointed. I was really looking forward to this pregnancy being so much healthier than the last since I have lost 160 pounds that I was carrying two years ago.
I was told that the levels have to be under 130 and mine was 172.
The gastric bypass cured the pre-existing diabetes, but for whatever reason, GD is here; well so they think. Being a gastric bypass patient - you generally have a low tolerance for sugar and cannot consume much sugar without 'dumping'- however I am able to consume more than the average patient. I didn't have any issues drinking the 50 grams of sugar that was in the first drink... but the next test is a different story.
If one fails the first one-hour test they proceed to a three-hour test. You have to consume 100 grams of the drink at that test and have blood work drawn before drinking it and an hour, two hours and three hours after drinking it. If you do not pass at least two of them - you are considered GD. Well the problem is I don't think even with my high sugar tolerance that I could keep down that much sugar without having some nausea, vomiting, light-headedness...
So my other option is to just test my sugars and phone the doctors office with my results. I would have to prick my finger four times a day - fasting and two hours after each of my main meals. If the levels are high I would be considered GD this route. If I am in fact GD I will attempt to control my levels with diet - if that fails or the numbers are too high to get down by myself with diet alone - I will have to start insulin injections once again. I would have to prick my finger at those times a day and inject insulin in my tummy on a sliding scale rate - give myself a certain amount of insulin based on how high my sugar levels are.
Oh, what fun!
But, the good news! My A1C was only 5.3!!! That is better than the average American! So ... this issue is just temporary :)

A few of my friends threw me a lovely 'baby sprinkle'' today. I feel so incredibly blessed to have such amazing friends! I love each and every one more than they will ever know.

Gifts for baby Alex:
Michelle - 3 outfits, bib and 2 pacifiers (I exchanged the outfits because two of them I already had and the other one - the sizes didn't match. I ended up getting Alex 3 pair of sheets, 2 hats, a pair of booties, 3 pair of mittens and a pair of boots.)

Mary Jo - diaper cake with diapers, 3 burp cloths and a onesie

Amanda, Dana, Jessica & Wendi - breathing and movement baby monitor

Lunch was excellent, everyone brought a dish. There was chicken salad, fruit salad, chips and cheese dip and the cutest cupcake cake you have ever seen!!!

What an wonderful day!! Thank you SOOOO much ladies!!!
